We proudly present our first panel discussion entitled, “Debunking the Strong Black Woman” on Tuesday 20th December 2016 from 7pm – 10pm at The Library Members Club in London’s Covent Garden. It is the first in a series of self-care talks promoting emotional well-being for Black Mothers. We have a panel line up of four phenomenal women leading the discussion. It will be an evening of Black Mum Magic, genuine warm vibes, positive energy, cocktails and honesty enabling us to delve into a subject matter that can be difficult to address. You can purchase event tickets here.
Our discussion will explore the narrative of “The Strong Black Woman” and how it manifests in our everyday lives – from learning that expressing emotional difficulty or asking for help is a sign of weakness, to internalising our vulnerabilities and impacting our emotional well-being. This, coupled with the pressure of motherhood, is a dangerous combination and we think it’s time to give ourselves a break and embrace being gentle, soft, imperfect, human. The event will be a safe space to celebrate our nuances and vulnerability, abandon this draining label and just ‘be’ – whilst of course drinking cocktails.
