As we venture into a new season we thought we would try something new. Each Monday we will spend ‘A Day With’ one of you mothers! We hope that this insight will give you some inspiration, help you to see that we are all juggling and maybe make you smile.
If you follow us on social media (you should be!) you may have noticed me (Tamu) raving about Nicola Rae-Wickham. Nicola is the founder of A Life More Inspired which is a company that aims to support women be the best they can be by utilising her skills as a qualified NLP practitioner and life coach without the cheesy BS that is often associated with personal development. Nicola is like sunshine, she can challenge you to dig deep and really figure out whats blocking you without being too pushy or confusing you with nebulous self help jargon. Nicola’s new project is The Dream and Do Club where she uses a variety of media and guides to help you chip away at those emotional blocks that stop you from dreaming and doing. I took part in the beta version and can tell you that it really shed light on some of my shadows so I can own and or do something about them. I could rave about Nicola all day… however that is not what this is about. I proudly present our first ‘A Day With’ post featuring Nicola Rae-Wickham !
I set my alarm for…. 6am.
I actually get up at… 6.05am. I try to get an hour to myself in the mornings and this time is precious to me as it forms part of my positive daily practice. My daughter wakes at 7am most days so if I’m lucky I’ll get a full hour.
My morning ritual(s) is/ are… Spending 5 minutes laying in bed listing in my head 3 things I am grateful for and setting my intention for the day, I then drink a glass of water followed by a cup of tea whilst journaling and then I’ll mix it up between meditation and reading. More recently I have been practising 60 minutes a day of nothing but my on thoughts. So I’ll often replace the mediation and reading with 30 minutes of time for that.
What do you do next? Then Mia wakes up so its full steam ahead getting her and myself ready for the day.
To wake my kid(s) up I… Don’t have to do a damn thing. I wish I had to wake her up.
For breakfast I have… Porridge and honey or if I am feeling indulgent then cheese on toast.
My go to outfit is… Skinny jeans and a slogan T with my stan smiths or nike air maxes.
I chose my career/ job because… I originally worked in marketing for 15 years. I chose it because I am fascinated by human behaviour, having studied Sociology at Uni, it leant itself to a career in communications. I do what I do now (coaching) because I am still absolutely fascinated in human behaviour and have now found a way to help enhance women’s lives rather than making them buy shit they don’t really need ; ).
Describe your typical work day… I work from home and I’m at my kitchen table by 9.30-10am and will be doing coaching calls, supporting my dream and do club members, creating content, writing posts, filming videos, packing orders, going to the post office and connecting online and face-to-face. I love to go for a run in the middle of the day if I haven’t managed to go in the morning. And then its more of the same in the afternoon. My schedule is really flexible as on any given day I will be doing a combination of the above. Then it’s cooking dinner and from 5pm it is all about my daughter. Once she’s in bed at 7.30pm, I’ll inevitably open up the laptop and I try to log off by 10pm at the latest, then its a bath and bed by 11pm. Although my bedtimes do often go later than that. I don’t mind as I like the flexibility.
For lunch I… Rustle something up from whatever we have in the fridge. In the summer it’s usually a salad and in the winter it will be soup.
My biggest career related achievement to date is… Ooh this is a weird one for me. As it is actually being brave enough to leave my 15 year career in marketing to go become a one-woman show with ‘A Life More Inspired’.
I dread work when… I feel overwhelmed and burnt out. It doesn’t happen very often and there have always been huge lessons that come out of it.
If I could exchange my career for any career in the world it would be… I am in my ideal career but I have goals such as getting my cards in Selfridges as well as independent retailers, extending my inspirational merchandise range to include journals and other items, speaking gigs internationally as well as face-to-face international clients and growing the Dream and Do Club because…I want to make a huge impact on helping women with positive thinking and using this one precious life that we have to the maximum.
At the end of the work day I… I’m not sure where it ends so to be honest I don’t know!
The first thing I do when I get home is… Wash my hands and change my clothes. Washing off the outside, physically and metaphorically ; ).
My go to dinner is…. Pasta in multiple ways from Lasagne to Spaghetti Bolognese and Pesto.
I unwind with… A long hot bath and a book.
Before I go to bed I… Give thanks.
